So it is coming to the end of the year...
Christmas decorations, carols chanting in the shops.
SA vs Eng at home and the springboks up North.
We would just like to say - Have a wonderful festive season!

SA Springboks

Post by scienide on Thu Apr 23, 2009 1:03 am

I started this on our Rugbymania offsite, so thought will post here and see what you all say and think.

Hi Guys, no tow open up a all time hot topic, who all got different opinions about….. If you could choose you all time Springbok team, who would you pick and why?

Prop: Os du Randt – no reasons needed
Hooker: It’s a tight one for me between Uli Smith, James Dalton, John Smith. My vote is for John for what he has done as player and captain for SA.
Prop: CJ van der Linde, Guttro Steenkamp, Balie Swart and ‘’the Beast’’ comes to mind…
Lock: Frik du Preez, I saw a few clips of him playing and it is obvious that he was in a league of his own, no one comes close.
Lock: Matfield, Andries Bekker, Bakkies Botha
Flank: Shalk Burger
Flank: Great names to add to this list, Andre Venter, Rassie Erasmus, Francois Pienaar and Corne Krige, Fransois Pienaar captaining the world cup champs in 1995 but I enjoyed Andre Venter in his younger days
Nr 8: Bob Skinstad ,Gary Teichmann, Pierre Spies whould have been the first choice
Scrumhalf: Joost vd Westhuizen with Fourie du Preez as a very close second.
Flyhalf: Naas Botha for his kicking, Butch James, Braam van Straaten, Jannie de Beer , Hendrie Honiball.
Wing: Brian Habana for winning the IRB player of the year.
Centre: Jean de Villiers -the best inside centre in world rugby
Centre: With guys like Robbie Fleck, De Wet Barry, Marius Joubert and Jacques Fourie this will go to Danie Gerber.
Wing: Of all the greats I will go with James Small
Fullback: Difficults choice between the great Andre Joubert and the Legendary Percy Montgomery.. with all the records being set by Percy Montgomery he gets the go ahead in front of Andre Joubert for the No 15 jersey.

So just a quick recap:
1. Os du Randt
2. John Smith
3. The Beast
4. Frik du Preez
5. Victor Matfield
6. Schalk Burger
7. Francios Pienaar
8. Pierre Spies
9. Joost vd Westhuizen
10. Butch James
11. Bryan Habanna
12. Jean de Villiers
13. Danie Gerber
14. James Small
15. Percy Montgomery
